General Manager

Turn your love of retail, furniture, and design into a leadership opportunity.

Heirloom Consignment in South Portland is looking for an experienced, hands-on General Manager to lead our team, grow sales, and create an exceptional experience for shoppers and consignors.

This is not a desk-bound management position. You’ll have the freedom to make decisions, develop your team, curate an inspiring showroom, build relationships, and help shape the future of a locally owned business. No two days are exactly alike: one day you may evaluate a distinctive piece of furniture, and the next you may refresh a display, coach an employee, analyze sales, or plan a special event.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • A creative, visually interesting retail environment
  • Meaningful responsibility and input into business decisions
  • The opportunity to work with distinctive furniture and home décor
  • A locally owned business where your ideas and contributions matter
  • Performance-based incentive opportunities
  • Predictable scheduling or designated weekends off, if available
  • Salary range: $40k–$50k, based on experience + performance-based incentives

What You’ll Do

  • Lead daily store operations and create a welcoming, organized, and customer-focused environment.
  • Hire, train, schedule, coach, and motivate store employees.
  • Set and pursue sales goals while monitoring store performance.
  • Oversee the complete consignment process, from item acceptance and pricing through merchandising, markdowns, sales, and returns.
  • Monitor inventory age, turnover, and sell-through to maintain an appealing and productive merchandise mix.
  • Build strong relationships with shoppers and consignors.
  • Maintain a beautifully curated showroom consistent with the Heirloom Consignment brand.
  • Manage staffing, expenses, inventory accuracy, and operating procedures.
  • Support promotions, special events, social media, and community partnerships.
  • Identify practical ways to improve sales, profitability, efficiency, and the customer experience. And other duties as assigned

You May Be a Great Fit If You

  • Have retail leadership experience and enjoy being present on the sales floor.
  • Know how to coach a team and hold people accountable in a supportive way.
  • Have an eye for quality, presentation, and visual merchandising.
  • Enjoy building relationships with customers and community members.
  • Are organized, proactive, and comfortable solving problems independently.
  • Can use POS and inventory systems and understand basic sales reports.
  • Are available to work a flexible retail schedule, including some weekends.
  • Can lift up to 50 lbs.

Experience in furniture, home furnishings, interior design, consignment, resale, antiques, or specialty retail is valuable—but candidates with strong transferable leadership experience are encouraged to apply.

The Person We’re Looking For

You are a confident, approachable leader who likes taking ownership and making things better. You understand how the right inventory, excellent service, strong merchandising, and a motivated team come together to create a successful store.

You are equally comfortable coaching an employee, helping a customer, evaluating a piece of furniture, refreshing the showroom, reviewing sales results, and addressing an unexpected operational problem.
